Yeah sure, you could send a cute little text message and use "<3" for a heart and all that other gushy stuff. You probably could send a voice memo, or caption an image. The PercyFX app for iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry steps it up a notch (well, more than a notch) and lets you add a personalized messages to popular movie clips from your smartphone.
PercyFX has teamed up with Universal Pictures and now Paramount to bring you movies like 'Mean Girls', 'Bridesmaids', 'American Pie', 'Big Lebowski' 'Despicable Me', 'Back To The Future', and more. Each movie has several clips for you to choose from. You can browse the entire library or view "featured clips". Once you find the perfect clip, you can add a special message that will be integrated into the clip. Don't think for a second that your message will be some weird, out of place graphic at the bottom of the clip. The app actually merges your message seamlessly with the clip like it was always apart of the movie.
Now, the app is free to download, but you have to buy in-app credit packs to customize the clips. I did a couple clips myself and it breaks down to roughly one credit per clip The cheapest credit pack is 3 credits for a buck. Once you customize your clip, you can pretty much do whatever you want with it - Share it via email, Facebook or upload to directly to YouTube.
It would have been cool to have an option to save the image back to your camera roll directly, but the work around would be to email the clip to yourself and then download the attachment. The only little gripe I have is that you don't have the ability to proof or review your customization before the magic happens, so you have to make sure you spelled all the words correctly and everything is right and tight before the clip is made.
Other than that, this is a pretty cool app if you want to add some flare to your regular messages. There are tons of ways you can use the app to create slick party invites/reminders, to just making somebody feel real special for no reason.
